JOB OPENING: Digital Advertising Campaign Specialist

The Chicago Sun-Times is a distinctly Chicago news organization, with a laser focus on impactful investigations, sports, politics, and reporting stories that matter to the working men and women of Chicago.  We are hiring a Digital Advertising Campaign Specialist to serve as the operational subject matter expert on all Sun-Times and Reader digital advertising products and services, including display, mobile, native, social and email marketing. This role will support our internal sales & marketing team throughout the entire campaign process—planning, trafficking and analysis—to ensure we consistently exceed client goals.


  • Provide sales team with accurate inventory forecasts and custom solutions, allowing Account Executives to propose client recommendations with confidence
  • Enter detailed order information and traffic ads within DFP and third party platforms
  • Thoroughly test creative assets prior to campaign launch to ensure ads will display properly on our sites
  • Manage high impact calendar and sponsorship schedule to highlight revenue opportunities and prevent advertiser conflicts
  • Regularly analyze campaign delivery to achieve budget fulfillment and performance benchmarks
  • Prepare optimization reports and adjust campaigns as needed to exceed KPI goals and continually improve upon past performance
  • Collaborate with developers, programmatic team and/or third party partners to identify new advertising opportunities and troubleshoot delivery issues
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams to complete ad hoc projects and initiatives as needed

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must have strong analytical skills
  • Must be organized, detail oriented and work well on deadline
  • Professional communication skills needed—verbal and written
  • Can work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective project management skills
  • Must have thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Ad serving experience required, DoubleClick for Publishers (DFP) a plus
  • Knowledge of websites, HTML and other internet technologies preferred
  • BA/BS in Marketing, Communications or a similar analytical field; relevant work experience will also be considered
  • Knowledge of industry trends and interest in emerging media is desired
