El 4º distrito congresional en Illinois que tiene forma de orejeras fue manipulado hace 30 años para crear un distrito de mayoría hispana en el área de Chicago, como lo ordenó un tribunal federal. Es apropiado, entonces, que el representante del distrito dedique mucha atención a las preocupaciones expresadas por los latinos.

Ese ciertamente fue el enfoque del anterior representante, Luis Gutiérrez, y es cierto para el actual funcionario Jesús “Chuy” García, quien fue elegido demócrata en 2018. La primera prioridad de García ha sido impulsar la promulgación de una reforma migratoria que incluya un camino a la ciudadanía para los beneficiarios de DACA.

Sin embargo, más que Gutiérrez, García ha perseguido durante mucho tiempo una amplia agenda progresista, como cuando patrocinó una legislación para exigir el nombramiento de más trabajadores de base en las juntas corporativas. Apoyamos a García sobre su rival republicano, el empresario Jesús Solorio.
