A man was found dead Tuesday after being hit by a vehicle in a hit-and-run in Gary, Indiana.

Terryonte Bridgeman’s family called authorities to file a missing person report about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to Gary police and the Lake County coroner’s office. They told investigators they hadn’t heard from him since 8:15 p.m. Monday.

Officers began to search for Bridgeman, 25, who was last seen off of County Line Road, authorities said. He was found with severe injuries shortly before 3 p.m. in the grass along Route 12 near Old Hobart Road, having apparently been struck by a vehicle.

The coroner’s office was called and Bridgeman was pronounced dead at the scene at 4 p.m.

Police said the case is being investigated as a hit-and-run, possibly involving a Hyundai.
