It hasn’t been the best of weeks for Ariana Grande. Her words and actions have sure stirred up the world of social media.
First that video of her licking cupcakes’ frosting in a pastry shop went hugely viral. On top of that, while in the store she was heard saying she hated America and Americans.
Her team is now saying Grande’s words were taken out of context — and that she was merely making a point about obesity being such an enormous problem in this country. “I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country,” Grande said in a statement. “What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the doughnuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words.”
A source on Grande’s team stressed Wednesday that “Ariana is a very proud American, especially in the wake of the Supreme Court decision on marriage equality.”
• By the way, Grande also has bowed out of performing at the Major League All-Star Game Concert in Cincinnati this weekend. But that’s due to recent oral surgery on her vocal cords. She will be replaced by Demi Lovato.
