11-year-old boy struck by Metra train in Blue Island

An 11-year-old boy was struck by a Metra Electric Line train Tuesday morning in south suburban Blue Island.

Inbound train No. 504 was approaching the Burr Oak station near 127th and Winchester about 7:25 am. when the boy ran northbound across the tracks on Winchester, Metra spokesman Meg Reile said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Reile said. Information on his condition was not available Tuesday morning.

Reile said it’s not clear why the boy crossed in front of the train.

Three trains—outbound No. 205 and inbound Nos. 504 and 506—did not operate after the crash, according to Metra’s website.

All trains are running normally again as of 11:30 a.m.
