A 12-year-old boy was trapped when a car crashed into his home while he was sleeping Sunday morning in west suburban Glendale Heights.

An older model Buick left the road and crashed into a split-level house in the 1300 block of Glen Ellyn Road just before 10 a.m., according to a statement from Glendale Heights police.

A 12-year-old boy, who had been sleeping on a couch in the lower level, was trapped underneath the car, police said. Firefighters rescued the child and he was taken to Glen Oak Hospital, where he was treated for a minor injury.

The driver of the Buick declined medical treatment, police said.

The car was removed, but the home has been deemed unfit for occupancy until it is structurally stable, police said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No citations had been issued as of Tuesday afternoon.
