Two men were wounded in a drive-by shooting early Monday outside a gas station in the Archer Heights neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The men, ages 21 and 22, were driving at 1:24 a.m. south in the 4500 block of South Pulaski when someone in a dark-colored SUV fired shots in their direction, according to Chicago Police.

The younger man was shot in the right knee, while the older man suffered a gunshot wound to the right leg, police said. They were both taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where their conditions were stabilized.

At least three shell casings were found in the roadway on Pulaski outside a BP gas station.

“I heard pop, pop, pop, pop, pop and saw the shots coming from an SUV,” said the 37-year-old cashier at the gas station, who asked to remain anonymous because “I gotta keep myself safe.”

He offered coffee to police officers working at the scene early Monday.

“I tell them every day to come in here and get coffee and soda,” the man said. “The cops have a tough job, they need to stay alert.”

The man said that he hears shots fired near the gas station “almost every day,” and added that he was a victim of the city’s gun violence when he was 14 years old in 1994, when he was shot five times while playing basketball on the Southwest Side.

“This is sad, man,” he said. “I’m sick of seeing this s–t. I wish it would just end already, this violence is not necessary.”
