At least Bears have started QB's they've drafted

As you might expect them to do, the Bears have ratcheted up the suspense on their quarterback situation for Sundays game at Seattle.

In breaking from the norm, there will be no quarterback press conference at noon, leaving the media to toss questions at an empty podium, not unlike your run-of-the-mill Brian Urlacher Q&A.

Its fully expected that Rex Grossman will be named the starter against the Seahawks no matter what the condition of Brian Grieses non-throwing left shoulder. Word from Grieses camp is that he will not be surprised by a change, which would mark the 32nd change in starting quarterbacks in 133 regular-season games for the Bears. Thats one switch every 4.16 games.

Maybe its fitting the Bears make a move on the same weekend the Kansas City Chiefs turn things over to Brodie Croyle. The second-year passer will become the first quarterback drafted by the Chiefs to start for the organization since 1987. Thats two decades of non-homegrown quarterbacks for the Chiefs, a remarkable feat. Todd Blackledge, a first-round pick in 1983 who last started for KC in 1987, was the last.

In that span, the Bears have tried out plenty of quarterbacks theyve drafted without a lot of success. Meanwhile, the Chiefs sent Joe Montana (1993), Steve Bono (1995), Elvis Grbac (2000), Trent Green (2003, 2005) to the Pro Bowl. The Chiefs even had the sense to keep Jonathan Quinn buried as a No. 3 on their depth chart.

So the mystery, as much of a mystery as it really can be, continues for a few more hours. Check back soon for updates.
