Mokena fisherman Bill Anderson just called to say Powerton Lake is shut for levee repair.
I called site super Stan Weimer, who said the cooling lake outside of Pekin is closed indefinitely for levee repair, but he added, “Hopefully the boat opener will be a go.”
Powerton was scheduled to open for boat fishing, as traditional, on Feb. 15. And, especially with a Friday opener, this is one of those winters where there would be more interest than usual in open-water fishing.
