WASHINGTON–The Obama team made formal a series of changes and additions in its communications team–including the elevation of Obama communications czar Robert Gibbs to senior strategist. Gibbs has been with Obama since his 2004 general election U.S. Senate campaign. Anita Dunn is the key senior advisor in charge of the Obama communications, research and policy departments.

Obama Campaign Unveils New Communications Staffing for the General Election
New Additions in Chicago and Denver Bolster Efforts
Chicago, Il The Obama Campaign today announced its general election communications operations which includes several new additions and new roles for several long-time aides. The campaign also announced that Democratic consultant Jenny Backus will be the senior Obama communications official in Denver working on the Democratic convention working with Obama aide Liz Oxhorn. Other changes include:
Robert Gibbs, one of Senator Obamas longest-serving and closest aides, has been elevated to Senior Strategist for Communications and Message taking on a broader strategic portfolio for the Fall campaign while continuing to serve as senior communications aide travelling with Senator Obama.
Anita Dunn, a long-time Democratic consultant will serve as a Senior Advisor overseeing the campaigns Communications, research, and policy departments.
Dan Pfeiffer, who had been Deputy Communications Director during the primary, will become the
Linda Douglass, who joined the campaign shortly before the end of the primaries as a Senior Advisor, will continue to be the travelling spokesperson for the campaign, and Bill Burton will continue as national spokesperson out of the Chicago headquarters.
Josh Earnest, the campaigns Iowa communications director, will serve as the Deputy Communications Director.
Christina Reynolds, who was the Research Director for John Edwards in 2004 and 2008 and communications director for the Daschle Campaign, is the campaigns new Director of Rapid Response.
Wendy Morigi joins the campaign from Senator Rockefellers staff as the National Security Spokesperson
Dag Vega joins the campaign from the DNC as Director of Surrogate Communications
Joelle Terry will become the Deputy Director of Surrogate Press and serves as the campaigns chief booker for interviews for the Senator.
Tommy Vietor, who had been the Deputy National Press Secretary is now handling rapid response full time working with Hari Sevugan.
Moira Mack who until recently was working at Hildebrand Tewes Consulting and Nick Shapiro, who worked in OR, TX, and CA for the campaign are the new Deputy National Press Secretaries working for National Press Secretary Bill Burton.
