Jenks headed to DL

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Bobby Jenks isnt one to tap out of anything.

So if the White Sox closer is even under the belief that shutting him down until after the All-Star Break is the best option, you know the pain he is experiencing near his left scapula isnt exactly a soothing one.

There havent been setbacks, and thats a good thing, Jenks said after his latest throwing session on Tuesday. Its one of those nagging injuries where youre not sure you want to be put on the DL right away because its not serious enough right away. It seems like its taking longer to heal than it should.

There is no reason for me to go out and try to push it. Especially where we are sitting right now, I can rest the first half and that way Im healthy for the second half and that September push. Thats more important.

And the Sox were sounding very accommodating to that idea.

Manager Ozzie Guillen had spoken to general manager Ken Williams hours before the game with the Royals, and the plan was to put Jenks on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 30. The move will officially be announced today, according to Guillen.

[Jenks] said he can throw the ball but we dont want to take the risk, Guillen said. We have to do it. The guy coming up is only going to be here three to five days, but this thing about Bobby, its been too many day-by-days.
