MANITO, Ill.–There was a whole of this kind of splashing going on Sunday afternoon when my buddy Pete and I boated and released double-digits in muskies Spring Lake.
Now granted, these weren’t monsters, they ranged from 18 to 29 inches, with the majority about 26 inches.
All the same, we had 10 muskies, five each in a three-hour window from 2:30-5:30. That’s some fishing.
Nearly all came on jerkbaits. All five of mine came on a shad Crane, which was my bonus for signing up with Muskies, Inc.one year at the Chicago Muskie Show.. Pete switched up more than I did, but caught most of his on two jerkbaits.
This 29-incher was the longest of the day. Yeah, it was a fish worth sticking a tongue out for.
The primary launch shuts down on Friday as fishing shuts down in the hunting area, but the Sky Ranch Road launch on the far end is open year round. And there’s a good bit of shore fishing available.
