An extremely interesting story is developing north of the border in Montreal, where the NHL is sending security personnel to meet with police officials in the wake of news there may be a connection between some Candiens players and an organized crime outfit.
Authorities are trying to discern if there is a link between Pasquale Mangiola — who faces weapons and drug charges — and players Andrei Kostitsyn, Sergei Kostitsyn and Roman Hamrlik.
Mangiola allegedly worked as a go-between for rival gangs in the Montreal area.
This whole thing sounds like a screenplay, but apparently there’s enough there for the league to look into it.
