Chicago outdoors: Guys, gossip & gals

A “Fridge” sighting, sorta, and more on Riverview Marine becoming Time on the Water Outdoors highlight this “Guys, gossip & gals” in Chicago outdoors.

First, William “The Fridge” Perry.

So I was chatting/gossiping with Dan Basore at his Historical Fishing Display at the Chicago Boat Show Saturday.

He always has a bunch of stuff around.

And i noticed the Fridge on a poster with an Ugly Stik bent over his head.

Of all the things that he hawked during that most glorious and goofy period in Chicago sports, I didn’t remember him selling Ugly Stiks, the everyman’s rod.

Basore had a couple stories about talking bass fishing with the Fridge.

it brought back a younger time, a freer, wilder time in Chicago and the sporting scene.

As I first reported in an earlier GGG, Frank Hyla and a Chicago partner bought Riverview Marine in Spring Valley.

Now, I hear the name will be Time on the Water Outdoors, not surprisingly since Hyla has become known for his Time on the Water television show.

And, as reported earlier, it will expand into more outdoor-related pursuits, such as archery.

And I am glad to hear that Rich Josepher, one of my favorites, has resurfaced with some role there.
