Hawks clinch Central Division

The Hawks won the Central Division — their first division title in 17 years — on Sunday when the Detroit Red Wings lost 4-3 to the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Hawks last captured the division when it earned the Norris Division crown during the 1992-93 season, finishing with 106 points.

As of Saturday, the Hawks had 103 points to the Red Wings’ 96. They eliminated the Nashville Predators from title contention with their 2-1 shootout victory Friday over the New Jersey Devils.

After the Hawks won the Norris in 1993, they tanked in the playoffs, getting swept by the St. Louis Blues in the first round.

That’s why it’s considered just one of the Hawks’ regular-season goals.

”We can’t be satisfied with just that,” Jonathan Toews said.
