WASHINGTON–President Obama, First Lady Michelle and daughters Malia and Sasha visited the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial on Friday night in advance of the Sunday dedication ceremony.

The First Family left the White House at 7:50 p.m. for the unannounced visit to the memorial near the National Mall. The family was back at the White House by 8:20 p.m.

Obama will deliver a speech at the Sunday morning dedication.

Obama talked about King’s legacy in a January, 2010 King Day address. “May the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King continue to inspire us,” he said. Read the transcript of that speech HERE
