A number of businesses offer discounts to veterans or current members of the military all year long, while others are offering limited discounts in honor of Veterans Day. Here are some:

Free food and drink

Applebees, all day Friday: You’ll be able to choose from three-cheese chicken penne, 7-ounce house sirloin, chicken tenders platter, fiesta lime chicken, bacon cheddar cheeseburger, oriental chicken salad or double crunch shrimp. Not valid on carryout and it does not include beverage.

Chili’s, all day Friday: Choose from six entrees, dine-in only. Drink is not included.

Golden Corral, 5 to 9 p.m. Monday: Get a free buffet during the 10th annual Golden Military Appreciation Dinner. Drink is not included.

Famous Dave’s, all day Friday: Get a free Two-Meat Salute (choose two different meats served with corn bread muffin, corn-on-the-cob and your choice of one side) at the Bolingbrook, Orland Park and Lombard locations. Dine-in only.

Hooters, all day Friday: Buy any drink and get 10 free boneless or traditional wings. Dine-in only.

McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants, all day Sunday: You’ll get a free lunch or dinner entree. They highly recommend you make a reservation and, due to space limitations, they cannot accommodate parties larger than six.

Outback Steakhouse, all day Friday: Get a bloomin’ onion and Coke product. Dine-in only.

Subway, all day Friday: Get a free 6-inch sub or flatbread sandwich (subject to individual restaurant participation).

Texas Roadhouse, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday: Veterans have 10 free lunch entrees to choose from and this one comes with a free Coke product, iced tea, sweet tea or coffee. Dine-in only.

T.G.I. Friday’s, all day Friday: Buy one meal get the second (less expensive) meal free. Not valid on carryout.

7-Eleven, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday: Get a free small Slurpee.

A free wash

Delta Sonic, all day Friday: Free Super Kiss car washes.

Free golf

Silver Lake Country Club, Orland Park, Friday: Get a free round of golf. Call (708) 349-6940 to reserve your tee time and bring some form of military ID.

Other discounts

Home Depot, onging: The home improvement store offers a year-round 10 percent discount to all active-duty military personnel, reservists, retired or disabled veterans and their immediate families. The discount is capped at $500 (meaning you can buy up to a $5,000 worth of products. You’ll need to show a valid military ID at checkout.

Sam’s Club, Friday: The big-box retailer will distribute 36,000 Hugo canes to veterans in need of mobility devices. You don’t need to be a Sam’s Club member, but you do need to have a military ID. Limited supplies are available at each store. For more information, visit HugoSalutes.com.

Help a veteran out

Sport Clips, all day Friday: Get your hair cut as part of the Veterans Day National Cut-A-Thon and Help A Hero program and Sport Clips will donate $1 from each haircut to the VFW’s Operation Uplink. The VFW program provides free phone time to hospitalized veterans and active-duty military personnel.
