WASHINGTON–The Obama re-election team has been challenged to come up with a slogan as effective as the “hope and change” that propelled Barack Obama to the White House in 2008. An ad campaign–and a speech Obama made Monday in Hawaii–gives some clues where the Obama 2012 team is headed: Obama is “change delivered.”
Obama’s team has kicked up stressing and outlining Obama’s accomplishments on-line. Web ads are running highlighting what Obama has done with the headline, “Because of Obama…”
Obama, at a fund-raiser in the Aulani Disney Resort in Ko Olina in his native state, framed a portion of his speech with the refrain, “Change is….”
Excerpts from the Obama speech:
“Change is the decision we made — not a popular one at the time — to save the auto industry from collapse.
“….Change is the decision we made to stop waiting for Congress to do something about our oil addiction and finally raise our fuel-efficiency standards on our cars and on our trucks.
“….Change is the fight that we won to stop sending $60 billion in taxpayer subsidies to the banks that were giving out student loans, and today that money is going directly to students.
“….Change is health care reform
“….Change is the fact that, for the first time in history, it doesn’t matter who you love if you want to serve this country that we all love.
“….And change is keeping one of the first promises I made in my campaign in 2008 — we are bringing the war in Iraq to a close. ”
