Chase is scrapping a test run of a checking account that charged customers a fixed $10 monthly fee.

The test in Oklahoma was a departure from the New York bank’s practice of giving customers ways to avoid monthly fees, either through direct deposit or a set minimum balance.

It was one of the tests the bank began this year to gauge how customers would respond to various pricing structures. One plan charged customers in Wisconsin $3 monthly fees for debit cards. Chase said last month it would end that test.

A source with knowledge of the situation said the Oklahoma test would end this week.

Bank of America, Wells Fargo and other major banks have also ended plans to charge customers with debit card fees.
