A suspect accused in last week’s robbery of a South Side Aldi store that left a security guard dead was found hanged in his cell early Thursday after being charged Wednesday night. Police confirmed that Develt Bradford, 52, of 5300 S. Damen Ave., was found hanged in a holding cell in the Calumet District police station.

A 52-year-old man charged with killing an Aldi security guard on the South Side last week was found hanged in his jail cell early Thursday.

Develt Bradford, 52, of the 5300 block of South Damen Avenue, was found hanged by his pants in the Calumet District police station lockup, police News Affairs officer Robert Perez said.

A source said he hanged himself with pajama-style pants worn under his regular clothes. His death was ruled a suicide.

The lockup keeper and an aide cut him down and performed CPR but could not revive him, Perez said.

Bradford was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:03 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
