Tuxedoed men and women in shimmering dresses streamed into One Magnificent Mile Thursday evening for the wedding of former Mayor Richard M. Daley’s youngest daughter, Elizabeth “Lally” Daley.

The bride wore her mother’s wedding dress. She was accompanied down the aisle by her ailing mother, Maggie, and her father. The wedding was scheduled for New Year’s Eve but was moved up so Maggie Daley could fully participate. Maggie Daley has been battling metastatic breast cancer since 2002.

Guests included Mayor Rahm Emanuel and his wife, Amy Rule; the former mayor’s brothers, Bill and John, and Desiree Rogers, the former White House social secretary.

Silver and plum were the wedding colors. As Emanuel left the celebration at Spiaggia restaurant, 980 N. Michigan, a reporter asked him how the bride looked. He replied, “Like all brides – beautiful.”

Bill Daley, President Barack Obama’s chief of staff, said earlier to reporters: “(Lally’s) a terrific person, and so is [groom] Sam [Hotchkiss]. So we’re real happy.”
