DALLAS — Down three goals after the Blackhawks dominated the first 20 minutes, the Dallas Stars came out hitting in the second period of Friday’s game at American Airlines Center.
The results weren’t good for the Hawks.
Defenseman Mark Fistric sent Fernando Pisani crashing hard into the boards at the end of the Stars’ bench just over five minutes into the second.
Pisani’s head bounced off the glass and then snapped off the bench. Afterward, he stayed on the ice for several moments. It changed the complexion of the game, which the Stars won 4-3 in a shootout. Pisani needed help off the ice and to the Hawks dressing room.
Here’s a video of the hit:
Viktor Stalberg and Ryan Johnson also left after all the tough play by Dallas, which overwhelmingly outhit the Hawks 39-16.
Stalberg left first in the second period and appeared to be favoring his shoulder after taking a hit. Johnson didn’t return after the second intermission.
All three players are officially considered day-to-day with upper-body injuries.
Bryan Bickell went after Fistric after his hit, and the Hawks earned a power play. Fistric was sent to the penalty box for interference and roughing. But the Hawks failed to convert.
“We can work our butts off on that power play and really try to show them up and get them back for hurting one of our players — and we don’t,” captain Jonathan Toews said. “We were satisfied, and it was a terrible power play.”
