Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman declined to get into specifics, but said Saturday that the team is “getting close” to finalizing a new contract with defenseman Brent Seabrook.
“It’s certainly moved along a lot faster the last week or so,” Bowman said. “There’s nothing yet, but I expect something soon.
“It’s not completely done yet but we’re getting close. I’m every optimistic it will get done.”
TSN’s Bob McKenzie first reported early Saturday that the Hawks and Seabrook’s camp were on the verge finalizing a five-year extension worth just under $30 million.
Seabrook is in the final year of his second contract with the Hawks, which pays him $3.5 million a year.
“Like Stan said, it’s getting there,” said Seabrook, who has four goals, 33 points and a plus-2 this season. “We’re still figuring stuff out. I’m going to be very happy when it’s over.”
