From his famous sleeping fox squirrel photo to capturing coyote images, we talk with Kankakee nature photographer Gary Soper this afternoon on “Outside.”

“Outside” airs from 4:30-5 p.m. Mondays on WKCC-FM (91.1), a start-up public radio station in Kankakee. Click here for online listening options.

I have enjoyed Gary’s photographs for years, in part because his area of concentration is around some of my favorite hiking and fishing areas of Kankakee and Kankakee River State Park.

Co-host Joel Greenberg and I also touch a bit on Gary’s equipment. Yes, he brought along the wonderful visual aid of his big camouflaged camera and lens above. His techniques include pursuing his subjects in much the same way as a skilled bowhunter.

Gary’s photography may be viewed and purchased at his site Wildlife in Nature. His latest book is The Subject of Nature.

There is a Facebook page for Outside with Dale Bowman and Joel Greenberg.
