WASHINGTON–Vice President Biden hired Washington Post political and Capitol Hill reporter Shailagh Murray to serve as his new communications director. She replaces Jay Carney, the former Time Magazine Washington Bureau Chief who moved up to become White House Press Secretary upon the departure of Robert Gibbs.

Murray is a graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Missouri, Columbia.
