Excerpt from the prepared text of the speech: “We are each other’s largest investors. Around a million jobs in each country depend on the other’s companies. And these are high quality jobs: pay is 40% more than the average US household income. At nearly half a trillion dollars, the UK’s stock of investment in the US is over 500 times China’s investment in the US.”

Background from the British Embassy: “UK investment in the US makes a local impact in Illinois totalling $9 billion and providing 60,000 jobs. The Ambassador said British businesses specialising in green energy are looking at opportunities for further investment in the state including offshore wind in the Great Lakes.”
