UPCOMING GUIDANCE FOR FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA

Wednesday, May 18th 3:30 PM – The First Lady will host a conference call with faith and community-based groups and leaders on Joining Forces, the national initiative mobilizing all sectors of society to support and engage military families. Participants will highlight examples of faith and community-based organizations’ support for military families and veterans, and invite other faith and community groups to take action. Members of the media will be able to join on a listen only line.

Thursday, May 19th 11:45 AM – The First Lady will deliver the keynote address to the Women’s Leadership Forum’s National Issues Conference at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C. The Women’s Leadership Forum National Issues Conference, hosted by the Democratic National Committee and Obama for America, brings together women leaders from across the country for a series of events spotlighting the important challenges facing America.

Thursday, May 19th 2:30 PM – The First Lady will host the Congressional Club spouses for a service event at the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C. For three years, Mrs. Obama has invited Congressional spouses to join her in a community service activity on the day following the annual Congressional Club First Lady luncheon. The First Lady and Congressional spouses will paint a mural at the Base’s Youth Center, which provides care for over 300 children of military families. They will also paint benches that will be placed around the Base. Student Teaching Artists from the Corcoran Gallery of Art’s ArtReach Progam and the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities helped design, and carry out, the project. This 2:30 PM event will be open press, please RSVP to firstladypress@who.eop.gov with your vital information including full name, date of birth, social security number, citizenship and city and state of residence. The Congressional Club’s annual First Lady’s luncheon will be held on Wednesday, May 18th and is closed to press.

Friday, May 20th 7:00 PM – The First Lady will make her first visit to West Point as the banquet speaker for the U.S. Military Academy Class of 2011. Held in the historic Cadet Mess, she will address an audience of over 3,000 graduating cadets, their families and guests. This marks the final social event the cadets will take part in as a class prior to commencement and commissioning.
