WHITE SOX HOST ‘MAYOR DALEY NIGHT’ ON AUGUST 3

Team to Recognize Mayor in Special Pregame Ceremony which includes presentation of the Roland Hemond Award

CHICAGO – The White Sox will honor lifelong fan Richard M. Daley with “Mayor Daley Night” on Wednesday, August 3, when the White Sox face the Yankees at 7:10 p.m.

The evening will include a special pregame ceremony in which Daley will be presented with the 2011 Roland Hemond Award for his 22 years of service to the city of Chicago. The White Sox established the Roland Hemond Award in 2003 to honor those who show a consistent dedication to bettering the lives of those around them. The award is bestowed upon those who offer extraordinary personal sacrifice for the benefit of others.

“Mayor Daley worked tirelessly for more than two decades to improve this great city and the lives of those who live here,” said White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. “He is a reason Chicago maintains such a strong international reputation, and is the ideal recipient of the Roland Hemond Award as he has continuously demonstrated character, kindness and generosity – traits similar to those of the award’s namesake.”

Wednesday’s ceremony also will include a special video for the Mayor, the presentation of gifts in recognition of his service to the city and the ceremonial first pitch. Fans in attendance on Wednesday will receive a commemorative Mayor Daley “photo baseball” upon exiting the ballpark, while supplies last.

“My family members and I have been loyal White Sox fans for generations, and I was fortunate to be Mayor of Chicago during the team’s remarkable run to the World Series in 2005. It is humbling to have them recognize my service as Mayor of this great city,” said Daley. “I am especially honored to be selected as the recipient of the Roland Hemond Award, as I know it is given to those who have positively contributed to Chicago’s wonderful neighborhoods. I am proud to be one of millions of dedicated White Sox fans.”

Tickets remain available for Wednesday’s game online at whitesox.com and at the U.S. Cellular Field box office.
