Wild of the Week: Sandhills at Jasper-Pulaski

SHARE Wild of the Week: Sandhills at Jasper-Pulaski

Bill Peak, one of my favorite photographers of Chicago outdoors, did it again.

A couple weeks ago, he sent along some wonderful shots of sandhill cranes at Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area southeast of Valparaiso.

The one above is my favorite of the lot.

BTW, the Medaryville Lions Club holds its annual Crane Cruise today with bike rides of 12-50 miles around the Jasper-Pulaski. The count earlier this week topped 8,000. I’ve done it with my oldest boy and highly recommend it.

For more on the Crane Cruise, click here or contact Mick Capouch at (219) 843-4491 or mick@capouch.net.

Send nominations for WOTW, the occasional celebration of wild things around Chicago outdoors on Sundays on the Sun-Times outdoors page, to straycasts@sbcglobal.net.

Usually this time of the year, I am running Buck of the Week: Unplugged. And I will get back to running BOTW: Unplugged. But if the WOTW photo is better, I am running the better and more interesting photo.
