As Hurricane Sandy bears down on New York and the eastern seaboard, lots of dramatic images are getting pushed out. You can find a gallery here.

Meanwhile, in Chicago, the city waits for an onslaught of wind from the megastorm to push Lake Michigan into a frenzy, with up to 25-foot waves predicted, fueled by 60 mph gusts. Sun-Times photographer John H. White shot this tame precursor at the 31st Street beach looking north toward Downtown.
