Jay Cutler lauds teammate Carimi: 'It matters to him'

Maybe Jay Cutler is becoming more tolerant in the wake of the J’Marcus Webb incident in Green Bay on Sept. 13. Or maybe he just has a fine appreciation for guys who make it obvious that this isn’t just a hobby for them, either.

Whichever it is, Cutler offered strong support for right tackle Gabe Carimi, who was mired in a little difficulty at times in the Bears’ 41-3 shellacking of the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville.

Carimi, a first-round draft pick last season, was called for holding, was beaten for a sack and had back-to-back false-start penalties in the game. But Cutler, on ”The Jay Cutler Show,” –a popular spin-off of ”The Waddle & Silvy Show”on WMVP-AM — gave Carimi his full support, with encouraging comments that resonate maybe more clearly than he intended when compared to his lambasting of Webb during the Packers game. (For what it’s worth, Carimi had an unnecessary roughness penalty and a holding penalty that stunted promising Bears drives in the Packer game.)

”The thing I like about Gabe is that it’s really important to him. It matters to him,” Cutler said. ”He’s one of those guys you really don’t have to say much to him. When he gets beat or whenever he loses [a battle], he’s the first one there to say, ‘Hey, I’ll get him next time.’ Gabe’s going to be fine. That’s the last thing I’m worried about.”
