NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Brandon Marshall is on pace to for 118 catches for 1,594 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns.
Those would all be career-highs for Marshall and team records for the Bears.
But after his nine-catch, 122-yard game with three touchdowns, Marshall was thinking of his fellow receivers.
“You know what, that was special because I’ve never done that before and we’ve never done that before,” Marshall said, referring to a three-touchdown game with quarterback Jay Cutler. “That was a first. The thing that we really want to get going are the other guys. It was tough today. Again, we started off really slow.
“Having three touchdowns is good. But I really want to get Earl Bennett going, Devin Hester going, and we’re going to really work hard this week to get that going because those guys work hard, and they’re open. Bt the way teams are playing us, they’re leaving a lot of opportunity for me. And being a No. 1 receiver, it feels good taking advantage of opportunities like that, but I want to see those guys going a little bit.”
Bennett had key catches against the Carolina Panthers, and he was targeted eight times on Sunday at LP Field. But Bennett finished with just four catches for 22 yards. Hester had two catches for 19 yards.
And the longest pass play was a 45-yarder on a screen pass to running back Matt Forte.
Marshall said Sunday’s 51-20 win over the Titans was fun, but he said the offense felt the pressure to produce after another dominant performance by the defense.
“I mean, it was fun to be a part of it. Special teams is getting better every single game, so it’s fun to watch. It’s also fun, at the end, to be a part of it,” he said. “Offensively, we were just like, ‘Man, now we have to do our part.’ And that felt good to contribute, a little bit.”
Cutler got off to a slow start, but he once again shined in the second half. He finished 19 of 26 for 229 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
“It’s amazing. You can’t coach that,” Marshall said of Cutler’s 39-yard touchdown pass to him. “Cutler has a sense out there that a lot of guys don’t. And that’s what makes him special, making those type of plays. Plays where he just has a great feel for what’s going on, on the other side of the ball. I’m excited to be back with him and be a part of it.”
