One person was killed when a dump truck and car collided on the Dan Ryan Expressway Friday afternoon on the South Side — closing inbound lanes for the evening rush.
The crash happened on the inbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-94) near 91st Street about 2 p.m., according to Illinois State Police.
The chain of events began when the driver of a car clipped the front of the semi, sending the truck crashing into the concrete median on the shoulder, state police said. The dump truck driver was ejected from the vehicle, before the truck careened across the interstate and crashed into the center median.
All inbound lanes were closed for cleanup until about 6:30 p.m., state police said.
One person was dead on the scene and another refused medical attention, according to the Fire Department.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office had not confirmed the fatality as of 2:30 p.m.
