The iconic R2-D2 from “Star Wars” will appear in the new film too.

The folks at Disney have confirmed that R2-D2, the beloved little “Star Wars” droid will indeed be playing a role in “Star Wars: Episode VII” — which recently included Chicago in the nationwide casting call for the new flick — scheduled for a December, 2015 release.

Turns out the announcement about R2-D2 — included in every “Star Wars” film already made — makes it the first casting announcement for the upcoming movie, being directed by J.J. Abrams.

†Speaking of being “back” — Howard Stern revealed on his radio show Tuesday that he will return as a judge on “America’s Got Talent” on NBC next summer. It will be his third stint on the talent competition.

“It started out as a goof. Now it’s becoming a job,” Stern told his radio audience. NBC moved the show to snare Stern as Piers Morgan’s replacement in 2011. The veteran broadcast bad boy reportedly is paid something in the nature of $15 million each season to be a judge on “America’s Got Talent.”
