The White Sox traded closer Addison Reed to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday for third base prospect Matt Davidson.
Davidson, 22, batted .280 with 32 doubles, 17 home runs, 74 RBI, 55 runs scored and a .350 on-base percentage in 115 games with Class AAA Reno in 2013. He was named Most Valuable Player of Major League Baseball’s All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field.
“As a young, power-hitting third baseman, Matt has put up impressive offensive numbers at every stop in the minor leagues, often as one of the youngest players at his level,” general manager Rick Hahn said in a statement. “We view him as potentially a middle of the order, run-producing third baseman for a long time.”
Davidson appeared in 31 games, including 18 starts, for the D-backs in 2013. He batted .237 with three homers and 12 RBI.
