WASHINGTON–Neither President Barack Obama nor First Lady Michelle will attend the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, a mark of the frosty U.S./Russian relations. The U.S. delegation will be led by former Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, who is now the president of the University of California.

The official U.S. delegation for the opening and closing of the games will include past Olympians and U.S. athletes, including tennis great Billie Jean King; Brian A. Boitano, Olympic gold medalist, figure skating; Bonnie Blair, the speed skater who was raised in Champaign, the five-time Olympic gold medalist and one-time bronze medalist; Caitlin Cahow, Olympic silver medalist and bronze medalist in women’s ice hockey and Eric Heiden, five-time Olympic gold medalist in speed skating.
