In a statement Wednesday, TBS Just for Laughs COO Bruce Hills said that after a five-year run in Chicago, his organization is stepping away for a year to “rethink the festival model to adjust to the current marketplace.”

Hmm.

Hills noted that JFL “experienced a similar situation in Toronto,” took a year off, tweaked things and returned with an interactive event called JFL42.

“We are now in the midst of a similar process—re-evaluating the festival’s timing, approach and structure—for Chicago,” he said of the June extravaganza, “as we strongly believe that it is one of the greatest comedy markets in the world and would love to return.”

But will they? Stay tuned.
