Pete’s Fresh Market has its eye on the Dominick’s Finer Foods in Oak Park and a handful of other stores.

Charlie Poulikis, a manager with the South Side-based grocery chain, said the company will decide in January about buying any Dominick’s stores being closed Dec. 28 by Safeway.

“We looked at that (Oak Park) store and two or three others,” Poulikis told the Oak Leaves.

Jewel-Osco and Mariano’s have bought some of the 72 Dominick’s stores being closed. Whole Foods and a group affiliated with Joliet-based Central Grocers Inc. are said to be interested in some stores too.
