Ever forget what to do when the dreidel lands on gimmel?
Need a refresher on the history of the game?
Then Matt Rissien of Lincoln Park, a youth director at Congregation Beth Shalom in Northbrook, has a catchy Hanukkah rap song just for you.
It’s called the “The Dreidel Song,” and the music video has gotten more than 29,000 hits on YouTube in the past few weeks, shared on Facebook by Rissien’s high school students and played by parents for his kindergarteners, he said. He filmed the lighthearted video in different spots all over Chicago, he said.
It’s not the youth director’s first rap: last year, Rissien recorded a parody of Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop” for Purim. Songwriting is something he enjoys, he said.
Plus, he said, “Part of my job is finding ways to get to kids, to make being Jewish fun and find new, creative was to do that. I figure a lot of people are making videos so I’d jump on the trend.”
Enjoy, and Chag Sameach!
