Sting has written a new musical that will set sail in its pre-Broadway engagement this summer (June 10- July 14, 2014) at Chicago’s Bank of America Theatre.

“The Last Ship,” with a score by Sting and a book by John Logan (the screenwriter and Tony Award-winning author of “Red”), and Brian Yorkey (“Next to Normal”), tells a story inspired by Sting’s youth in the seafaring and shipbuilding town of Wellesden in northeast England.

It spins around Gideon Fletcher, who dreams of a future beyond Wellesden. After traveling the world for 14 years he returns home to find the existence of the shipyard in peril, and his sweetheart engaged to marry another man. He also starts to realize that “he left behind more than he could have imagined.”

Joe Mantello (“Wicked”) will direct. Steven Hoggett (“Once”) will choreograph. A cast is yet to be announced.
