As part of this year’s EXPO Art Week (Sept. 16-22) and during the EXPO Chicago art blowout at Navy Pier (Sept. 19-22), the Andy Warhol Museum and KIWI Arts Group will sponsor an exhibition of photographs taken by William John Kennedy. Their subject: Andy Warhol himself, in 1964, just before his celebrity skyrocketed.
While the exhibition — titled William John Kennedy: The Warhol Museum Edition” — is in town, the Mayor’s office gets a special gift: a limited edition Kennedy shot of Warhol holding his iconic acetate rendering of movie star Marilyn Monroe.
“These images are extraordinary because they capture Warhol at the height of his creative powers and pair him with some of his most famous artworks,” said Patrick Moore, the Warhol Museum’s deputy director, who curated the show.
