WASHINGTON–President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle sent get well wishes on Wednesday to the hospitalized former First Lady Barbara Bush.

“Michelle and I send our best wishes to Mrs. Bush for a speedy recovery,” the First Couple said via Twitter.

In a longer statement the president said, “Michelle and I send our best wishes to Mrs. Bush for a speedy recovery. Barbara is blessed to have both a loving, supportive family by her side and a vibrant spirit that we hope will have her feeling better soon. I know I speak for Americans everywhere when I say that our thoughts and prayers are with Barbara and her family on this New Year’s Day.”

The First Family is vacationing in Hawaii.

CNN is reporting Mrs. Bush, 88, the wife of former President George H.W. Bush and the mother of former President George W. Bush is an a Houston, Texas hospital for a “respiratory-related issue.”
