Comcast Corp. is close to opening a retail store in Schaumburg, its first in the Chicago area.

The Xfinity store will showcase the company’s cable TV, Internet and home phone services as well as Xfinity Home, the company’s home security and automation platform.

Customers will be able to sign up for or upgrade services, make payments, return or exchange equipment at the stores.

The store in Schaumburg, Comcast’s regional headquarters, will be the first of several retail stores to open in the area this year. The company isn’t ready to say how many there will be or where. The Schaumburg store is expected to open in the first quarter.
