When one street vendor in India stole a bag off a local train, he said he hoped to find cash or valuables. Instead, a baby boy, estimated to be two weeks old, was concealed inside.

Kishor Kale, 20, snatched the bag on the train and later opened it inside the station. When a tiny hand poked out, he tried to leave the bag and the baby on the platform, but a ticket seller foiled that plan.

Police say the baby most likely would have suffocated in the bag had Kale not grabbed it off the train.

It’s good that the hawker found the bag. Had the child been inside for 10 more minutes, he would’ve died, another officer said.

The Government Railway Police are examining video footage to try to determine who left the bag and the baby on the train.
