Head for the attic: ‘Antiques Roadshow’ coming to Chicago this summer

SHARE Head for the attic: ‘Antiques Roadshow’ coming to Chicago this summer

Could those Chinese carved rhinoceros horn cups collecting dust in the attic be your ticket to riches?

Ask the “Antiques Roadshow” experts when they come to town July 26.

Chicago is one of eight cities this year that make up the PBS series’ summer tour. Programs recorded in these eight locations will be part of the 19th season of the show airing next year.

“Antiques Roadshow,” broadcast at 8 p.m. Mondays on WTTW-Channel 11, features specialists from auction houses and independent dealers from across the country as they travel throughout the United States offering free appraisals of antiques and collectibles. Cameras roll as owners recount their stories of family heirlooms, garage sale bargains and long-neglected items salvaged from attics and basements, while experts weigh in about these potential hidden treasures.

Apply for tickets and send photos of your furniture by the end of the day April 7 online at pbs.org/antiques. (Applicants for each pair of free tickets will be selected at random. Your chances of being picked depend on the number of eligible applicants for each city — it doesn’t matter how early or late you apply within the application period.)
