(HILLSIDE) A Crest Hill man was killed in a crash Tuesday morning on the Tri-State Tollway near west suburban Hillside.

The crash happened about 4:50 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-294 at the I-88 exit, Illinois State Police said.

David Martinez, 55, crashed the vehicle he was driving into the rear of a tractor-trailer, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Martinez, of the 16400 block of Kingsbrook Drive in Crest Hill, was pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy found he died of neck and spine injuries from the crash and ruled his death an accident.

Another driver was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

All lanes were closed after the crash, but everything was reopened by 10 a.m., state police said.
