California Blue Line station reopens after six weeks of renovations

The California Blue Line station in Logan Square reopened Thursday morning after undergoing six weeks of renovations.

The California station is the first of 13 to be upgraded as part of the Your New Blue project, which aims to provide faster commutes, more reliable service and a more welcoming environment for riders, according to a statement from the mayor’s office.

The station received new lighting, signage, refurbished walls, stairs and platforms; and more bike racks, according to the statement. The project was completed on time and on budget.

“In just nine months since we announced the historic Your New Blue project, we’ve already improved train speeds and reliability and have begun to update our aging stations as promised,” Mayor Emanuel said in a statement.

Starting Oct. 20, the Damen station will undergo a similar closure, according to the CTA.
