(GLENDALE HEIGHTS) A man died Friday six days after he was accidentally shocked by a power line in west suburban Glendale Heights.

Juventino Lopez, 36, was helping a friend remove a tree branch from overhead power lines in a backyard just before 5 p.m. on Nov. 15 when he accidentally made contact with the power lines and was shocked, according to a statement from Glendale Heights police.

Lopez, who lived in the 1000 block of North Nerge Road in Elk Grove Village, was initially taken to Glen Oaks Hospital in Glendale Heights, police said.

He was later transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he died at 12:15 p.m. Friday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy found he died of complications from an electrical injury and his death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner’s office.
