(AURORA) A 7-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was struck by a car Monday afternoon in front of her west suburban home.

The girl apparently ran into traffic in the 1000 block of Plum Street in Aurora and was hit by an eastbound 2005 Honda Civic about 3:10 p.m., according to a statement from Aurora police.

She was initially taken to an Aurora hospital, then airlifted to another suburban hospital for treatment of critical head injuries, police said.

The driver of the Civic, an 18-year-old Aurora man, was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Police said there were no signs of alcohol or drugs at the scene.
