The city’s top cop said Monday that a pilot program to test the use of body-mounted cameras on Chicago police officers should be up and running within 60 days.
Supt. Garry McCarthy said one issue still being resolved is how information from the cameras will be collected and stored.
In other matters, McCarthy also said the solving of murder cases is at a nine-year high.
Speaking to reporters at police headquarters, McCarthy attributed the better numbers to improved detective training and a stronger emphasis on community policing — among other things.
McCarthy also said complaints against officers are down 17 percent over the last two years.
“Not only are we seeing crime come down, we’re seeing (fewer) complaints against our officers, we’re arresting the right people and at the same time, we’re obviously seeing more trust from the community,” McCarthy said.
